After unpack and arrived in Kyoto, we straight went to Gion, to have lunch. There were fire around Gion Area, that made our bus go around the block, before arriving in Gion. The fire department and police block the road for safety reasons, that made high traffic getting there. Tips : If you are going to go around Kyoto by bus, better buy One Day Pass Bus Ticket for 600 Yen. It's money worthy, especially for the first timer like us, who kept getting into the wrong bus or direction. LOL. Since for one time getting into the bus, you have to pay 230 Yen for adult. For our lunch, we had Izuju Saba Sushi. Saba Sushi is Kyoto traditional sushi, eaten without wasabi or shoyu, which is kind of refreshing, enjoy it sushi by itself. Other unique things about the sushi that Izuju serve is the shape, it's square. Don't forget to try the mackerel one, and also don't attempt to eat the kelp, it's freaking hard, well, I did try hahahaha. For dessert, we are planing to have one in Gion Tsujiri. Buttt.... the queue was too long, then we decided to buy something to go, because we still want to go strolling around Gion Area. The matcha drink, Hojicha Ice Cream, and Matcha Motchi Ice Cream are the bomb. If you love matcha just like me, it's a dream come true. The fire accident was not too far from Gion Tsujiri, luckily at that time, the police blockade the road after Gion Tsujiri, so we still could have our ice cream, but after spent 15 minutes inside the store, buying matcha snacks, turned out the police already blockage before Gion Tsujiri, made the shop and the road empty. We went to Gion Area, where the tourists are hunting Maiko, Geisha Apprentice (if I'm not wrong). It's a crowded place, filled with tourists and cars trying to get through human sea. Not far from Gion, there is a hidden gem, called Ishibe Alley. It's more subtle and quite places, where all tea houses, traditional restaurants and bridals are located. Yes, bridal. Once, I saw a bridal name plank in front of big house, it's quite empty in the afternoon, but when we're passing the bridal on the evening, it was full packed by couples and their wedding organizers. And we arrived in the most Japanese Starucks could be, Ninenzaka Starbucks. LOL. From the outside, it's looked like traditional tea house, but on the inside, it was quite modern as the Starbucks as usually be. In here, I bought Kyoto Tumbler as souvenir. I heard they have tatami room, but since we don't buy any drinks and it was getting pretty late, we didn't have chance to see it. For our first dinner in Kyoto, we went to Sukemasa Gyoza. Reviem from the internet, it's an affordable great gyoza place to try. But the truth is... You can see from the photo, it was not really crowded, only two groups before us. The place is really small. It took around 15 minutes for waiter to greet us and seat us, even though we already saw empty seats after the last guests. It took another 40 minutes waiting for our foods, and took no more than 10 minutes to finish it.
The Gyoza is good, but empty stomach, slow service made it horrible experience. It's quicker to order it online and pick it up, because many people did. Sukemasa Gyoza is located in a quite neighborhood, not a crowded place, but people are keep coming to there. Since these is Japan, we feel really safe going around empty roads or waiting for bus without anyone else around.
